Who We Are
Lokayan, established in 1995 in Bikaner, Rajasthan, is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the folk arts and cultural heritage of the region. The word Lokayan means “dialogue among people”—and true to its name, we believe in connecting communities through creativity, tradition, and collective memory.
Vision
A Rajasthan where its cultural heritage, art, and artists are valued, celebrated, and passed on to future generations.
Mission
- • Revive and sustain Rajasthan’s folk traditions of music, craft, and community rituals.
- • Provide platforms for folk artists and artisans to share their art with contemporary audiences.
- • Protect Rajasthan’s intangible heritage through festivals, workshops, and retreats.
- • Foster intercultural dialogue that transcends caste, class, religion, and geography.
Our Journey
- • 1995 – Lokayan registered in Bikaner
- • 2012 – Launched Rajasthan Kabir Yatra, India’s longest traveling folk festival
- • 2016 – Started community outreach projects like Tana-Bana in collaboration with Rajasthan Police
- • 2022 – Collaborated with NID Ahmedabad for Usta Kala artisan training
- • 2023 – Expanded Kabir Yatra into Mewar region; launched mobile recording studio
